About the event

You’ve been working with new characters and developing a plot; maybe there are themes you’re interested in exploring but you’re not sure how to find your way in. Maybe you’ve been working for months on a project, and you’d like the chance to see it with fresh eyes. Or perhaps you've just been meaning to put pen to paper for an age and this seems like a good time. Join us for a One day Writing Retreat in The Studio at The Horsebridge, on Whitstable’s seafront.

Over five hours (with a lunch break at a harbourside cafe or pub or along the High Street) you’ll have time to take a deep dive into your story ideas through writing exercises and group discussion. Joanna Quinn and Sarah Leipciger will help you navigate your way to a better understanding of the stories you want to tell and how to tell them. Peggy Riley will also be on hand to offer teas, coffees and cake through the day - necessary writers’ provisions!

The Studio at The Horsebridge is fully accessible.

Travel

The easiest way to come to Whitstable, especially in the busy summer months, is by public transport. The Horsebridge is an easy, mostly flat 0.6 mile walk from Whitstable Station, down Stream Walk or along the High Street. You can also book a taxi from the station. Highspeed trains from London St Pancras to Whitstable take around 1 hour and 15 minutes. There are direct trains from elsewhere and buses from Canterburry or Herne Bay. The Stagecoach triangle route drops off right outside the centre when coming from Canterbury.

The Horsebridge is situated in the middle of Whitstable with no free parking available. If you are driving, then the nearest car parks to us are Keams Yard and Victoria Street but these both have under 50 spaces each. Parking in Whistable is not a joyful experience in summer, it is a little town with narrow streets and a small amount of parking. Park out of town and enjoy the views as you walk in, or make use of the public transport. If you plan to stay over in Whitstable and would like recommendations for accommodation, please ask.
